Wiring harness

I need some help. I have gutted under the hood of my 83' to clean and paint but I'm putting a 350 back in it instead of the 305. I will not need any of the a/c wiring as well as most of the other wiring so I plan on deleting them for a cleaner look. What all does the ecm control inside the car? Ex stereo, dash instruments, lighting, ignition. It's a 5.7 carbureted engine with electric choke.

Re: Wiring harness

The ECM controls the stock emissions system. If the ECM and harness is completely removed from your 83 - and you are running an aftermarket carb and distributor - then just about the only thing that will not work normally is the SMOG equipment.

The ONE THING you need to understand is that by removing the ECM you will be removing the transmission TCC lock-up. Lock-Up is VERY important to the early 700R4 ( especially the 83 ! ) so if you remove the ECM and harness you SHOULD buy an aftermarket kit to retain the TCC function.

Pulling out the ECM and ECM harness will not effect things like your gauges, horns, Heater blower or anything like that. About the only other thing that MIGHT be effected by removing the ECM harness is if you have a Standard tranny car - the reverse light wiring might run thru C207.

Re: Wiring harness

Thanks man that is a huge mess I can clean up. I'm running a WCT5 right now but hopefully can buy a 6 speed from a guy at work out of his wrecked WS6. The reverse wire coming from the tranny is in the harness that connects to the back of the gauges so hopefully I can pull out the entire ECM and not have to worry a bout anything.

Just to clarify the ECM is the silver computer looking box under the passenger side dash? Correct
