Gas Gauge Issues
Hey guys, I believe my gas gauge on my '86 IROC may have gone out. It's always read a little high just after a fill up, but would come down after driving 20 or 30 miles and then work fine from there. On my last fill up it went a little above full as always, but has not come down from there and I've driven enough miles that it should have.
I'm familiar with how the system works, but can't remember if the gauge is supposed to go to empty when the key is turned off; mine is staying a little above full, even with the key off. I need to troubleshoot it with a meter, but it's just too damned cold out right now to mess with it. So my question for now is, should my gauge be dropping to empty when I turn off my key? If so, I'm thinking my gauge may be stuck or bad.

Re: Gas Gauge Issues
I just went out there and tapped on the gauge with the key off and the needle came back down; started it up and it's working again. Guess the needle was just stuck.

Re: Gas Gauge Issues
i have a similar problem. my gas gauge points past full and stays there for a while and then after quite a bit of driving it starts moving again but once it gets past 3/4 of a tank or so it just drops very quickly. i could almost watch it go down. and my too does not point to empty after the car is turned off which i think it should, i think the need sticks a little because (idk is this normal for these cars?) when i do fill it up the needle moves up to where i should be but it moves so slow that it takes probably 2 or more minutes to get to where it should be.

Re: Gas Gauge Issues
These cars did suffer from gauge issues, not just the gas gauge, all of them; enough so that I installed after market water temp and oil pressure gauges in an A pillar pod to monitor the vitals of the 383 I'm swapping in in a few months.
