Starter switch wiring
Hey guys,
I want to wire a toggle switch to activate the starter in my thirdgen. I know I would still need to use the key to turn the car on. What wire(s) from the plug in the ignition switch would I need to hook the switch too?
Is it possible to wire another switch that will turn the car on so I could just stick the key in and not turn it?
Thanks
Bill

What's the goal? Are you setting up a switchbank or is it that the car won't crank and you just want to bypass everything instead of diagnosing it? Are you only setting up a Starter switch or completely replacing the ignition switch? Have you already disabled VATS?

Re: Starter switch wiring
I'm going for more of a race car type feel for the car and thought that being able to control the starter with a switch would be an inexpensive way to add some cool factor to the car. For now i just want to replace the start function of the key with a switch. So i would still turn the key to turn on the ignition and power up the car, but use the switch for cranking the motor over. So i just need to know which wire to use for the switch.

Re: Starter switch wiring
Be sure to buy a high amperage switch or better yet just by a relay and let your new switch control the relay. You don't want to go cheap and burn your car to the ground. The switch (or preferably a relay) you install must be rated higher than the amount of current that the starter solenoid will draw. Using a relay means you can pick whatever cool looking switch you want because it will only have to control a relay. The relay can do all the hard work and be buried wherever you choose to put it. This also saves some money because you won't have to use as much larger gauge wire. You can use little 18 or 20 AWG wire from your switch to the relay control and then use the larger wiring to just splice between your Ign Sw B+ and the Starter.

Re: Starter switch wiring
Doesn't the ignition switch act just like a switch? One hot wire goes in to the switch. The other comes out and goes to the relay to power the starter. When the switch is moved by the wire to the crank position the switch closes and completes the circuit?
