Power Seat Guru

Anybody have any experience on Power Seats, this is what I did,I connected the harness to a good battery and the seat switch works the way it's supposed to(2 different switches but the same) but the motors wouldn't run,so I jumped the motors to see if they were the problem but they run when I jump them,so I disconnected the plugs at the motors and I'm getting power to the plugs also,Am I missing something ?????
I followed all the testing directions,

and it seems that I'm getting power at the 6 plug terminal junction in all the positions when power is applied,is this where the test is applied???

Re: Power Seat Guru

If you are getting power to the connector at the motor, yet the motors run when 12v is applied directly to them, it must be a connector problem. Suspect either corrosion on the terminals not letting enough power through, or a terminal has spread and cannot make proper conact.

Re: Power Seat Guru

I'm totally baffled why these are not working, they should be working,I did check all the wire ends and plugs and they are not separated or corroded.I'm thinking I have two bad switches, one that it came with and one I bought of Ebay used because i'm getting power at the 6 prong plug at any position and according to the testing procedure that shouldn't happen.

Re: Power Seat Guru

Doesn't sound like a bad switch if you are getting power at the motors. Have you checked the ground?

It's grounded to the battery.

Re: Power Seat Guru

But you're getting 12v at the motor when moving the switch?

No,it's only at the plug to the switch, then when I plug it in the motors don't run, only when I jump them they run

Re: Power Seat Guru

Still sounds like a ground problem to me. If you have voltage at the conn for the motors then they should work. However the switch itself might work the ground too I'm not sure without a diagram

Re: Power Seat Guru

Plug the seat switch up. Put a test light on the forward seat motor connector and test for the light to come on when moving the switch to "forward" (just as if you were trying to slide the seat forward) Then swap terminals and move the switch to the "backwards" position. Does the test light light up?

Re: Power Seat Guru

If you look at the pic of the blue plug above,if I put the test light in one side and move the switch forward the light, lights but it doesn't light on the other side of the plug until I move the switch in the opposite direction.

Re: Power Seat Guru

Yep that's exactly what should happen. The switch is just reversing the polarity. Sounds like you have a ground problem, which will be the black wire on the bottom right hand side of that diagram you posted. Check that

Re: Power Seat Guru

I plugged up the motor and now both sides of the plug light up in any position,I don't think that's supposed to happen.when the plug is not in only one side at a time work on the plug.

That's grounded directly to the battery.
