Car: '88 Sport Coupe - 383 Stroker
What am I missing here????

I have an '88 Sport Coupe that HAD a 305 TBI in it.

I've removed that and have replaced it with a 383 naturally aspirated motor.

Just fired up a few weeks ago for the first time. Runs great except for one problem: the alternator is not charging the battery. The alternator is known good (tested twice at different O'Reiley stores).

I'm not sure what was in the car before, but I now have a 4-wire alternator :
- big red wire (to battery)
- thin red wire (to dist block next to battery)
- tan/white
- brown

The problem is that I think the tan/white USED to go to the fan relay, but I'm not using the stock fan relay anymore (using an aftermarket fan relay based on temp sensor). I don't know about the brown wire. Also - I have a battery gauge on my cluster, but no battery light along the bottom.

I can't tell where the brown wire should go, because the only C100 wiring diagrams I have are for an '87 and and '89, and neither seem correct.

My question:
What could cause the no charging scenario, and what should the tan/white and brown wires be connected to?

Thanks everyone!

PS - I checked this thread, and it's not helping me.

Hunting For The Answer

Find out if the alternator wiring has the correct voltages.

The heavier
red wire goes to the positive stud, and should have power at all times.

The
thinner red wire goes to terminal S (the sensing circuit) and should have power at all times.

The
brown wire goes to terminal F (the turn-on input) and should have power when the key is in the RUN position.

Thanks NINA -

One question, coming OUT of the alternator, where should the brown wire go?

The brown wire goes to the FAN fuse.
