Wiper motor issues

Ok so here it goes I will try to explain this as best as I can. I was going over all the electrical in the car making sure everything was good to do a safety in the near future. Anyways the wipers dont work at all. Heres where im stumped

Its a older wiper motor witht he internal pump built into it. Ok it gets power to it but it only turns on , on high setting. When it does turn on it only moves the wipers up and down a few inches. Im stumped as to what it could be. I know I have delay on the column but I cant remember if the older motors had delay in them at all? When I turn it to the delay setting i get power on 2 wires in the harness that goes into the side of it.

Is the column a issue as its a delay column out of a later car?

If anyone can help me out let me know as I really want to get the car on the road soon.

Also doesn anyone have the wiring diagram from a 85 motor and a 87 motor as my engine harness is from a 85 and my dash / interior side is from a 87 TPI car

Thanks

Turn the wiper switch to the OFF position, then open the wiper motor cover.

Disconnect the 2 pin connector going to the motor, and the 1 pin connector going to ground.

Keep the wiper switch in the OFF position for all these measurements.

Insert a voltmeter in line with the 2 pin connector
purple wire and ground.

Turn the ignition key to the ACCY position.

What voltage does the meter indicate?

Now insert the voltmeter in line with the 1 pin connector
gray wire and ground.

What voltage does the meter indicate?

Re: Wiper motor issues

Ok so heres what I got. Keep in mind the Battery I was using needed to be chagered at the time so I used it as it was and it was reading 7.45v at the time of testing

So heres what I got out of the 2 connectors for the wiper motor

Pink - was always hot and had 7.45v all the time
Yellow - had nothing all the time - odd I guess
Grey - had 7.45v when it was in the intermittent position and low
Green - had 7.45v on low and when I used the washer fuild fuction

Purple - 7.45 on high
Yellow - was nothing all the time

Heres a video of what is happening when its on. This is the only setting I get it to work on and I think its the LOW setting

Re: Wiper motor issues

Would not the low voltage affect the ability of the wipers to work properly?

Re: Wiper motor issues

The motor wasnt hooked up as I was just getting voltages to see whats what with it. It was running before and it was the same issue. Ive just never seen the wipers do the thing they do like in the video before. The clicking in the video is a combination of motor and the wiper transmission. Ive tried 2 motors and both do the same thing and I know the one is fine

Re: Wiper motor issues

Ok im thinkin it might not be a electrical issue as I tried 3 motors and they all did the same thing. Im thinking it might be the wiper transmission was put in wrong. Anyone got a pic of it in your car? Just so I can eliminate it if it is put in right

It could be the switch or associated wiring.

As I wrote in post #2, ALL measurements are supposed to taken with the wiper switch in the OFF position.

Re-do the measurements.
