Help identify my alternator case type / pulley please?
Hello all,
I ordered a new alternator from summit recently and got it in today but I'm thinking it might be the wrong case type or something. I'm not sure honestly. I thought it looked the same in the pics when I ordered but now I'm not so sure actually seeing it.
I ordered this one:

This is two pictures of mine:
The first problem I see is the belt. The area the belt sits into in my pulley is about 3/4" wide. The area the belt sits into in the new pulley is about 7/8" wide. Also I think the grooves may be spaced slightly further apart but that one is hard to tell (haven't pulled the belt off mine yet to look for sure just comparing it to the grooves on the other big pulleys that I can see the grooves in that the belt goes through.
The second thing is I question whether I ordered the correct casing style. I can't find anything to tell me what the case type is on the one I have now. I mean just judging by the bolt positions I think the new one will install in the correct place, it just seems a little different.
The alternator I have now is this one:

When I bought it at advance, I had a problem with the pulley on it originally to. The pulley on it was too small (but it wasn't as small as a v belt) and I had to take it back and get them to swap the pulley off my old one onto the new one. There shouldn't be so many different sized pulleys for these things! lol
I'm at a loss on what the heck I have and what I should get to properly replace it lol. I want a bigger alternator on the car for two reasons, one I've been having battery charge issues when putting the car under stress (high RPMs hard running), and two I may eventually put a second battery in the car for my stereo system and some other electronics I'm going to be adding to the car.
Any help please?

Re: Help identify my alternator case type / pulley please?
A little more info. I was looking tonight and about to install the new alternator to just see if it worked. Well min pulleys all have 4 grooves, the new one has 5 grooves. So I'm fairly sure the new one wont work.
But I still need help figuring out what the heck I have so I can order a proper replacement.

1986 Camaros had no fewer than 9 different alternators, according to the fine folks at Power Master. The casing that is most likely to be on an '86, if that is what you have according to your info, is a 12Si casing. My '86 has an RPO code K22 for a 94 amp 12Si alternator.
The Worldwide alt you identified at Advance Auto has a part number P7294-9. Power Master makes part number 7294 which is a 100 amp w/ v pulley. Coincidence?
My question is do you need a 140 amp alt when you already have a 94 amp installed? Do you need the additional amperage?
Another q, do you require a one wire alt or a three wire alt? I don't see the GM wire plug on yours but I'm still asking.
Here's the catalog info from Power Masterto help you out.

1 Wire alt is what I have now.
As for the power master 7294 and v pulley coincidence, I think it's just that a coincidence. The alternator on there now when purchased from advance I'm almost positive had a serpentine belt pulley on it, it was just narrower than the ones on mine (Where as the one I got from summit is wider). But maybe I'm just misremembering because it has been a while.
As for the 140 amp vs 94 amp, it's for the reasons described in my first post. I'm having battery charge issues when putting the motor under stress as if the alternator can't keep up with charging at high RPMs. It happens occasionally when I'm running hard on the road, but at an autocross I was in, it actually drained low enough to not start the car up again. When I did get it started and let it sit there and idle for a few minutes it slow built the charge back up to just over 13 on the voltage gauge. And yes I've verified all of my grounds. They all make good connection, I've even checked them with a multimeter and they checked out.
Also as said previously, eventually I'm going to be installing a second battery in my car and a battery isolator. And I think then the extra amperage would be good as well.
I spoke with the ask a tech people at Summit, and they told me as long as the belt fits in the groove it should be just fine. So I'm going to try installing it this weekend and see what happens. If it doesn't work then I'll just send it back. But I'll still need to figure out what to get to replace it lol.
EDIT:
Looking at pictures, I can't even see what the difference between gm10si and gm12si is. The bolt holes look the same, and the case looks the same too =/
