Replacing engine wiring harness 1986 IROC
I just bought a 1986 IROC Z with a 305 TPI engine that needs the enginge wiring harness replaced. The PO had valve cover gaskets put in and the guy never tightened the right side and left the plug wires laying againist the exhust manifold. The fire was not real bad and never blistered the paint on hood or anything. At the time there was snow on the ground and they got the fire out quickly. The damage is mainly to the loom that runs over towards the heater core box.
Can anyone give me some tips, pointers, ideas, or suggestions on how bad it is to rewire this? Kinda trying to figure out if this is something I should try myself or pay to get it done. Thank you for any help you can give. Later today I will try to get some pics to show you guys the damage. Thanks again !

if you have any experience ion wiring, you can fix the harness thats there. of you dont id suggest just getting a new engine harness and replacing the damaged one. a good used harness will run you about $100-$200. paying a shop to rewire your harness will be more like $400+.

Just get the schematics for the pcm in your '86 and some wire and do it your self. If you can read a pinout then you can do this.

the whole harness can be removed from the car without cutting if that makes it easier to fix. disconnect all the sensor connectors, remove all the grounds (label if necessary and take lots of photos to make installing easier) and disconnect from the ecu inside.
