Unknown electrical connection

I was replacing spark plugs and valve cover gasket on my 1984 Trans Am when I ran across this connection. I thought it was connected to something but actually it had just been wedged between the cast iron exhaust manifold and the cylinder head on the passenger side. It has melted and is now cracked.

I am almost wondering if it is the coolant temperature sensor for the cooling fan relay because that is currently hard wired with a toggle switch.

If any one can help identify this piece it would be greatly appreciated. If you can identify it, can you please also indicate where I might find a replacement?

Re: Unknown electrical connection

That is the connector style for the fan switch. The switch itself should be on the passenger side head near where you found that connector. Replacement can be found at most parts stores.

Re: Unknown electrical connection

Al,
Thank you for the quick response and also the link to a replacement part. I noticed your SS and Trident pins on your image! I am a Sailor myself. Thanks again.

No problem. I'm going to show my age here - I retired from the Navy after 20 years in 1999. Where might you be stationed at? I stayed here in the Seattle area after retirement and pull in two paychecks, one from my current job and one from the Navy

My nephew was stationed on the Lincoln for a year or two during that time as an OS then went reserve when the active duty part of his enlistment ended. I picked him up at the airport and drove him up to Everett to check in on board, Big ship, much bigger than what I'm used to. He has since terminated his reserve time, cross-rated and is now in Japan on a mine sweep.

Re: Unknown electrical connection

Thanks for the help. I found the part at the local NAPA here and then came home to solder it and heat shrink the wire. The only snag was removing holder for the oil pan dipstick so I could get the connector pressedd in properly. Worked perfect and I know have a properly working fan without a manual toggle switch sitting on top of the dash. Off to another question for PCV valve on drivers side and vent going to air cleaner on passenger side. I'll post that in appropriate section.

I entered as an MM in 1999 and left after six years of service. I was out about 5 years to take advantage of the GI Bill. I entered the reserves about 1 year ago and have three years remaining on that contract. Not sure how long I will stay.
