wire harness romoved, now what
I am going to put a carb motor in my 88 IROC, and i want to remove all the wires i will not need any longer, however, the blower, and wipers are on that wire harness. Have any of you done this, and if so how were you able to retain the use of the factory switches for these electronics? Should i plug the harness back in and just cut away the wires i will not need and seal off the ends? Is there a way to run new wires, or is there an after market harness that will replace this one, minus the TBI wires?
thanks

dont cut anything. just unhook all the connectors and tuck the wire harness out of the way. youll need to tap into a switched 12v source for the distributor coil. and youll need to bypass the start enable relay.

There are two separate engine harnesses. The harness to the ECM can be removed in its entirety through the right fender well. It and the ECM under the right hush panel should be retained complete. You will likely have to find an alternate means of engaging the fuel pump and the torque converter lockup though.
The harness to the left bulkhead connector needs to remain. It will provide your motor power, accessories, lights and guages.

a fully working opsu will engage the fuel pump after a few cranks. or you can wire the fuel pump relay trigger wire to a switched 12v source. the TCC lock up can be handeled a few ways. easiest is a lock up kit available online. of course if you have a manual trans, you dont worry about the TCC lockup.

Re: wire harness romoved, now what
my harness is all together. i started at the ECM and came up through the fender to the engine bay. as it went across the firewall top it had one large T that looked like it went to the TBI and it then continued across the top of the fire wall to the plug next to the brake booster. i was hoping i could just remove the TBI portion but it seems to be all together

i am currently working on sorting the wires as they come out of the plug behind the brake booster. i am hoping as i sort them out i may find i can separate the ECM side of the harness wires from the driver side plug wires

Re: wire harness romoved, now what
theres a few wires the cross over behind the engine. those need to be fished out and seperated from the ecm harness.

you should not have to cut anything. passenger side harness is all ecm related. driver side is lighting and gauge related. i always recommend taking a look over here to help clear things up, but a Helms manual is still worth its weight in gold on a job like this

Re: wire harness romoved, now what
if youre not looking for power, you can get a 305 for cheap, throw a stock TB intake and TB on it, hook up the ecm wires that are already there and drive.
