proform alternator problem
Just bought a new alt for 87 z28. My alt would squeal pretty bad when you first started it up and wouldnt charge the battery for more than 20minz after the car was on. Had the delco remy ( the alt that is in there now) tested and it tested out fine. But still gave me issues and still makes a lot of noise. So i bought a proform alt p/n 66445 that was recommended for my car. But the wiring harness that connect to the back of the alt doesnt match up. It is saying that you dont need, just run the 10 gauge wire from the back of the alt to the battery. I have replaced a few alternators in my day but always did exact replacements. What will happen if I dont have those wires hooked up to the back of the alt? I dont want to mess anything up on the car so I wanted to post this up before I do the swap. Thanks in advance.

Yes, it is a one wire. What about the wire connector for the back of the alt? Do I need that hooked up?

I have no idea what that is. How do I find that out?

I think you will need to install this instead of your wiring plug

or you can trigger it like this link.

Re: proform alternator problem
the tan/whit is neutral the brown is your alt light the red is the trigger,
so with the si plug red to red and brown to white if you want the alternator light or gauge to work
not sure if this is a tpi or tbi car but if it is I wouldn't use anything under a 90 amp alternator especially with power windows. If its a carb'd car the 63 amp will work fine.
wish I would of had a new 103 amp that I bought a few years back and never installed !!

Re: proform alternator problem
It is a tpi btw. And the alt is a 100amp. I have it all hooked up and everything works perfect. I put slip connectors on the wires and put them on the terminals. red on the left and the other 2 i put together and put it on the right terminal. its charging everything and no noise. thanks for your help.
