narrowed down speedo issue? any ideas?

okay, i've noticed yesterday when my speedometer was messing up that it'd only mess up when i'd press the gas. like it just shook between 50 and 55 and i was doing 80. but as soon as i let off the petal, it went to 80. when i pressed it again, it did the same thing. well today, i noticed that with any power drain it messes up. for instance, cut my ac on, and the speedometer dropped like 10 mph for a while until i turned it off. well, decided to test it, i let off the gas and turned the blinker on. and yep, itd drop. with every flash it'd drop down. when it'd flash off, it'd go back to normal. but, i was told i have a battery thats to small for my car. my brother's words, it looks like it came from a honda. my battery amps are right for both cranking and cold cranking. but its small, size wise. and in the morning (a little cold) it'll hesitate to start, but still starts. and my battery gauge is almost in red. but drive for about 5 minutes and it drops to normal, 13. this is the first time it has done anything like that, battery charge wise, and speedometer wigging out with power drain. i'm not sure what to do.

its a 1992 rs, 305 tbi, btw. thanks.

also, one more thing. i do have problems with my speedo randomly. like when its really foggy the night before, or kind of rainy. but it's never messed up with a slight power drain. like, half my cluster will mess up. my oil pressure will read like 15 psi higher than it should, my gas will read like 1/4 of a tank MORE than it should. and my speedometer. but its not often. and normally corrects itself in a mile or so. could it be the cluster???? thanks.

All your gauges have a mind of their own?

Find something common to them all and see if its got an issue i.e. fuse/ground

Its only some times my other gauges will go screwy. And its only noticeable if u drive the car and know where they should be. My speedo, on the other hand is getting worse. But it just strted twitching with power drain. And last night it quit messin up. And its only that half of the cluster. My rpm, volts, and temp gauge work perfctly fine. Thanks! Ima fiddle around under my dash one day soon.

I cant really say this fixed it, as it messes up as it wants, but one way while at autozone with a buddy, my car didnt wanna start. I turned the ignition and it made like half a spin and everything cut off. It turned out my negative connection on my battery was really loose. I tightened it and it hasnt messed up YET. *knocks on wood*

if ive said it once, ive said it a million times. bad grounds cause things to act screwy. the electricity has to find a path to ground somewhere, usually through paths its not ment to take, causing things to act weird in the process.

thers more than one ground. start checking the connections and grounds for the gauges and see if any are loose or corroded or the like.
