radio died after using the cigerette lighter.help
hey guys my cigerette lighter didnt work so i got one of the generic walmart ones and it worked fine once but the second time it killed the cigerette lighter and then my radio also stopped working is there common wiring that they share that could have blown?i checked all the fuses and nothing is blown.do they share a common ground wire or something that could have fried?or could it have fried the radio itself?all the adjustments on the radio still work and the speakers just not the actual radio.im terrible with wiring so any help would be awsome thanks ahead of time

This cigarette lighters are notorious for blowin fuses. The fuse for the lighter is labeled "ACC" and is 20two amp. It also controls you dome light. Maybe your radio has a fuse on the back of it? If you're not sure just pull it and check. If that's not it start checkin wires.

Pretty common for ACC fuse to run multiple other things in a car.
I use to have an old Buick DD that I would constantly get loose change rolling around and eventually a dime would fit perfect into the lighter... pop, blew the fuse, then interior lights, and other things in the car didn't work until a new fuse went in.
I'd start there.
Did you wrap up the wires when you did the lighter? Maybe something jiggled around and cross your wires and popped the fuse. Either way start with the fuses and check there. You can usually see them easily when they get smoked like that. You're probably going to have to figure out what happened to originally blow the fuse too, else it'll more than likely just happen again unless you just overloaded the amperage or something that one time.

The lighter fuse also serves as the radio memory power as well as the dome lights IIRC. I dont remember if the stock radio will not come on without it or come on, but clock and stations will be gone.
