87 GTA Wont stay running burning up ICM
Recently I purchased a 1987 GTA Trans Am L98 5.7L with Digital dash for $750. Saved it from just rotting in some guys backyard. The engine was pulled out and gone through with mild cam performer intake and carb headers. So no more TPI, had the original distributor. I drove it from an hour away no problems. Then out of the blue it would'nt start. so after trouble shooting I found the ICM was fried. I Replaced it with differant distibutor same kind. It started to fire then it quit. So then I looked on craigslist I found a Mallory Pro Comp 9000 #9148201 for $100 pretty much new. So I dropped it in set the timing. It also already had a new MSD Blaster 2 coil. It fired right up ran better than it had before I let it run at idle in the garage drove it around close no problems. So yesturday I drove about 45 minutes away too get firworks with no problems, till we went to leave. I fired it up had it at idle then it was like I turned the ignition off would not refire. I ran some tests and determined it is the same problem.
So now i am literally stumped. Do I have a short? Do I need to change something else? It doesnt have a ballest resister, which i found the distributor does need. Coil not wired right? How can I bypass all the old wiring from the tpi and computer stuff that isnt used anymore. If need be I can povide pics. Thx I need this car running.

Resistance Is Futile
Resistors reduce current therefore any resistors that are supposed to be in the circuit should be re-installed before you burn up more parts.
