Camaro diagnosis
Hi guys, I bought a 87 camaro (LG4) and I'm looking for a dignosis kit (if it's so called). Where to find a good one to use on my notebook? Is there anyone that doesn't use the notebook?I've no service manual but I'll be able to check errors on my car.
Best regards

Re: Camaro diagnosis
if you notebook, you are speaking about using a laptop, not many people do. There are some programs out there, but many of us use service manuals, or haynes manuals, which I'm not positive about actually being in stores in Italy, but in the US, there are manual providers like Haynes and Chilton that make manuals for different cars. That's what gives us the general overview of how our cars work, taking things apart and getting them back together properly.
Many of us rely on the online network of many amateur to professionally trained people on this website. If you are having a problem with your car, there is a good chance another 100,000 people have experienced it, and of that someone will be able to get back to you with a possible fix, or a couple things to check. If that doesn't work, many of us google search for things if worse comes to worse.
The other half of us are glued to a manual like the haynes manual, or chilton, or GM service manuals. I myself started with haynes manuals, and worked myself into GM service manuals that you can get reasonably priced on the US ebay.com website. The GM service manual can tell you every single screws torque in your car, along with complete and details removal and re installation procedures to make sure everything is done right. I'm sure someone else can chime in on electronic book support, but unless it's tailored to our cars, i'm not sure if it's going to help or create some confusion with the differences of specific instructions versus a generalized checklist.
If you want to give us some of the problems that your having or any check engine codes that you have, we can start to help if that's what you need.

Re: Camaro diagnosis
Thank you so much for your help, but I'm talking about a scan tool or code reader (I don't know well) to understand the code of my "check engine" error! Is there a software to use on my notebook or a little scanner to connect to the car?

Re: Camaro diagnosis
Ahhh, i understand now. Yes there are programs for the computer, but I prefer my hand held unit. I have a unit that I again got off of the US ebay, and it was about $125 and it covers obd1 and obd2 vehicles. So this would cover all 82-92 camaros and firebirds. I'm not positive about your newer on-board diagnosis system in the newer cars in Italy, but in the US, we have whats called an OBD2 system in all 96 and newer cars. I don't mean to sound so ignorant, but I'm just not sure about the cars in italy. Anyways, you can get a cheap obd1 scanner online, but someone else may be able to chime in with a laptop based software program.

to know error codes?
Has anyone news of the reader below?
http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listi...&condition=new
Is there an inexpensive display reader?
Best regards

What's wrong with a paperclip? Read this: https://www.thirdgen.org/service-eng...ht-error-codes
You have an LG4 motor, factory carbed. There's nothing really to know about your car (since it's not EFI), except what the paperclip will tell you. Save that money for useful things.
