Wiper motor mayhem!

Hey guys,

Has anyone had their wipers go nuts? I got an 84 TA and when you turn the wiper stalk on all the wipers do is go on the constant LO setting. No HI, no intermittent and more worryingly, no OFF!! The only way to stop them is to turn off the ignition with the switch off. Once the ignition is turned back on (with the switch still off) the wipers wipe once and return to the park position! I'm lost, been looking at it all day

Disconnect the wiper motor module connectors C1 & C2.

Have the wiper switch in the OFF position.

Have the key in the ACC position.

Measure voltage on C2a.

Measure voltage on C1b.

They need to be zero.

If you have voltage there the switch is bad, or a wire is shorted to a voltage source.

Re: Rain Pain

You mean disconnect the motor itself or a motor module? Where is the control module and what does it look like?

Many thanks

The module is on the left side of the firewall in the wiper motor assembly.

The connectors you will be disconnecting is the 2 pin connector going to the motor, and the 1 pin connector going to ground.

Insert a voltmeter in line with the 2 pin connector
purple wire and ground for measurement #1.

Insert a voltmeter in line with the 1 pin connector
gray wire and ground for measurement #2.

Nina. You seem to be pretty smart on this electrical testing stuff. Could you recomend a good site on how to actually use these meters. I have two, but no clue on how to use them. Thank you

What are the make and model numbers of the meters?
