Help! Digital gauge info needed! Help!

Ok, heres the deal, grabbed a set of digital gauges off ebay. Auction stated for use with 84-87 firebirds. I just recieved them in new condition, but instructions say for use with 82-84. ( made by 2001 Technologies corp ) Now maybe because they were made at that particular time. According to the instructions, when removing the original gauges; special care should be taken when removing the speedo , disconnect the speedo cable from the speedometer head. Now i bought these in hopes of installing into a 90 trans am. But we all know the speedo cable is not utilized in a 90'. I'm not sure but i think some 86's came with cable driven speedo's and some were electronic. all electronic all years after.
So does anyone here have any ideas at all or have maybe installed these gauges in a non speedo cable driven car? can it be done?
( this kit includes everything ; the speedo sending unit that connects the speedo cable to the transmission )
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
