Hatch Motor Help

So this morning I woke up at the usual 4:45 to go to work, went outside to see my Camaro covered in frost for the first time. (Canada gets nice and cold:P)

Anyways, I opened the trunk to get my sweater and when I closed it, it wouldn't close properly.
It "latched" or "hooked" but the motor won't move to pull it closed all the way.
The entire drive, I could hear the motor running as if it's making an attempt to close it but won't work. So I had to disconnect the battery while at work.

Anyone know the possible cause for this?
I really want to fix this before my motor burns out!

Thanks guys.

Here's a picture of a little plastic piece I found sitting on the motor.
Anyone recognize it?

Re: Hatch Motor Help

I can't make it out due to the pic being small and out of focus. If the motor runs continuously but doesn't pull down the latch assy, then your gear nut is broken. I sell them on my site. TDS 109111 $7.95.

How can I find out for sure?
Can you explain how to take the assembly apart so I can check?

Re: Hatch Motor Help

Just follow the instructions linked below and you'll be able to disassemble the pull-down unit to verify the gear is bad.
