Where does this plug into?!
Hey all I got a flat, 4 wire connector to the right of the dizzy that runs to nothing... The wires are Pink/white stripe, Black/red, white and tan. The CEL is on, code 41. Tried finding the tan wire that is supposed to be unhooked for setting base timing but I have yet to find it. I've also heard that some cars have a single wire and some have a 4 wire connector that is supposed to be unhooked for base timing. Which is it?? I know 41 means the dizzy isn't telling the ecu what is going on and I suspect its because of this wire/s. On this dizzy I have a tach, bat, and three wire connector that runs from the cap to the base of the dizzy. I'll attach a pic to help id the connector. acording to the schematics on autozone's website I should have 4 more wires running from the dizzy to the ecu and these 4 wires look like the right ones but I cant see any place they might plug in... The car is a stock 86 firebird with a 305 and CCQjet.

Did someone swap the computer controlled distributor with a Vacuum advance distributor? That's the distributor plug, there should be a second harness out of the distributor that plugs into that harness.

OMG THANK YOU! I do have a vac advance dizzy. I was told that was wrong. So I need a stock dizzy it seems. I checked the base of the distributor and couldn't find those wires at all. I just came home from autozone and none of the distributors they have in stock have those wires but they did have vacuum advances on them. Would this explain my code 41?

Are you sure the carb is still a computer controlled Q jet? It's not too uncommon to gut the computer controls on the early V8's.
If someone just swapped the distributor, you need a stock CC distributor to put it back to stock. The alternative is to swap the CC carb and find a way to control lock-up. It shouldn't be difficult to find a used distributor someone removed. They're probably available re-manufactured.

Re: Where does this plug into?!
I'm positive. Its got two connectors on the front of the carb. Would it harm anything to just run with the vac advance line hooked up? its currently unhooked. The car runs great at the moment. I'm going to hit up a junkyard in the near future for the new base though...
