installing an HEI Disrtibutor.
ok, so I have a 1987 IROC-Z28 camaro that has a 305 that had a quadrajet carburetor on it. I got a edelbrock 4barrel carburetor and a conversion plate for the 4 barrel to spread bore conversion and installed it on the engine. Now, I still have the same distributor installed that came with the engine, it has the coil separate from the distributor. The coil has two plugs that slide together that go on top of the coil. each plug on the coil has two wires that go into it. One of the plugs goes from the coil and plugs into the distributor, the other plug goes from the coil somewhere else into the wiring harness. Now from what I have researched, an aftermarket carburetor should not be ran off the computer controlled distributor, but would do better with an HEI distributor. I now have a Delco Remy Distributor with the coil built in the top. From what I understand there are two wires that need to be hooked into this new distributor, one from the battery and one from the tach wire. The problem is I dont know where to find these wires, or how to attach them to the HEI distributor. I think from what I have read, there is a pink wire in one of the plugs that goes into the top of the old coil, and I think that this is the 12 volt wire that needs to be hooked into the "Batt" terminal on the distributor. I am not sure and I have never done this before so tell me if I'im wrong, and please help me find the tach wire.
