Stereo Problem

While I was installing my new deck, the yellow wire (power) touched the edge of the deck sleeve and caused a short. The stereo will not turn on, I tried the stock stereo also and a different model, same result. All the fuses in the box are fine, does anybody have an idea of whats going on here? Thanks in advance.

If all the fuses are OK turn the key to the RUN position then probe the yellow wire with a voltmeter or test light (the type for testing for voltage, not a continuity tester).

If there’s no power there while all the fuses are good then you have popped or disconnected a power line.

Also, check power at the associated fuses to make sure they are hot both sides.

Re: Stereo Problem

I've had this happen before on my iroc. There is 2 radio fuses in the car. There's the radio ignition fuse in the main fuse box. There is another radio fuse for the constant 12 source. It is located under the driver side of the dash on the right side of the column. Should be able to hinge this fuse box down to access the fuse.

Re: Stereo Problem

Not entirely sure what the deal is right now, I ran a power wire from the fuse box (radio circuit), the wire is showing voltage, but the radio is still not working. Wondering if this could be a bad ground? The stock AC Delco radio will make noise over the speakers, react to volume change but wont turn on the display or tune into anything.

RadioActive

Get an ohmmeter and probe from vehicle ground to the radio.

Then you will know if your radio is grounded.

Also you can bench test the radio.

Hook it up to a power supply and speaker(s) and you’ll know in a few seconds if the radio is basically functioning.
