82-84 Gauge Cluster Compatible With An 86?
Hi guys,
I just installed a guage cluster I got out of an 82-84 car. The kind with the giant fuel gauge on the right in place of a tach. But here's the thing. The fuel gauge doesn't seem to be working right. The needle is simply standing straight up. It should be in a fairly horizontal position (that's where the marks are). Is the cluster not compatible with my year car or is there something wrong with the fuel gauge?
Thanks
Alex

How about... maybe? What you'll need is an instrument panel wiring diagram with pin outs, for both your donor car, and your car. Then compare the pin out locations. To the best of my knowledge, all the sending units are the same, but I'm not sure if the pin outs and the printed circuit on the back of the clusters are the same or compatible.

Thanks for the info, I'm pretty sure they're not the same. When I turn my key to "on" three of the back lights light up, but the idiot lights don't. And when I put the lights on the idiot light light up and three of the back lights don't. I only replaced the cluster because the speedometer in my original cluster isn't working right. So I'm just gonna put the speedo from the 82-84 cluster in my original. Since it's mechanical it shouldn't cause any problems, I hope.
Thanks
Alex
