Strange problem, speakers, headlights, dome...etc
I have an 89 Iroc 5.7 carb. I was sitting in my driveway getting ready to leave and the radio speakers shut off. The radio still powers on, just no sound. The hatch switch, dome light, Headlights, fogs, horn, and cig lighter all dont work as well as my powered side mirrors. All the fuses in the fuse box are good. I have no idea where to start. The radio is an aftermarket. Hope you guys can help me out.

also check the ground from the battery.... is the radio wired to the battery like some do with aftermarket ones? well, sound would still come out, so do you have an aftermarket amp running the speakers, that power or ground could of come off

The wire from the alternator is connected to the relays. The car starts, runs and charges fine. I dont have an amp, I bought a wiring harness for the radio so it is connected to the harness. Maybe a something got knocked loose behind the stereo? Just dont know what would cause the headlights not to work either? The lighter, dome light and so forth is usually the acc fuse but thats all ok. Im stumped!

check your cigarette lighter.
could be a faulty wire, my dome light wire caused me problems.
make sure your alternator is alright

Alternator is brand new. I was going to disconnet cig lighter when I got home. I know the dome light, cig, hatch are on the same fuse but why would the headlights and dashlights not come on? My brake lights work. Tail lights are also out. Hope yall can help!

Re: Strange problem, speakers, headlights, dome...etc
haha i had many of the same problems.
my alternator was maybe a year/year and a half old and it almost burnt up the car. fried the battery.
i dont know why but if the cigarrette lighter burns out, other things die too. one of them being the radio.
as for the headlight/dashlights, it could be the headlight switch.
i had my taillights go out but i really dont remember what it was
