can i use two maf sensors.
i did a search and couldn't find squat. is it possible to use maf sensors and wire them together in a certain way so that the computer still get a certain reading. i was thinking you could wire them in series so the voltage would be added to one another, equalling total voltage for air intake, but then it would probably wind up with high voltage issues. can this be done, and if so how. i want to build a dual inlet intake, and have a maf for each side so it reads correctly.

so there is no way to wire two maf sensors together so they read as one unit. anybody think this is even possible?

I know what you are trying to say, but I don't think its possible. You might want to look into speed density which requires no maf at all and you can make your dual intake...

Anything possible the question is whats it really worth? You wouldn't be able to just directly hook them up together and have it work. I mean being that im an electronic engineer i know an electronics could be made to drive and sum up the outputs from the 2 sensors and send the result back to the ECM but for what gain? And even then who knows if the MAF sensors will read lower air flows correctly being that they could be 1/2 as much as the minimum GM expected and the air velocity will be maybe to slow to give an accurate reading. It would be hyper expensive and fairly complicated and even then the biggest problem would still remain that the ECM can only read up to 255 which means even with 2 MAFs although u may increase the flow you cant increase the ECMs ability to read beyond 255. A better choice would be to get a MAF translator and use a larger MAF out of another GM car. Its cheaper easier and accomplishes the same thing but better. Or just switch to a MAP system which would be in many respects better and cheaper yet.

Re: can i use two maf sensors.
Along those same lines, you could do it if you got rid of the GM computer and went with like Motec or something...but that's only about $5-$10K, so I wouldn't think it was worth it unless I had a serious build I was doing. If you had an aftermarket computer with more inputs that you could program to be whatever you need them to be, then yea anything is possible. But the price tag is steep.

ok, so two mafs ain't gonna work. i know, i will build my own. lets see how that works. transfer the electronic guts from this maf into a 4 inch carbon fiber tube. should read close enough and flow way better.

Re: can i use two maf sensors.
no unfortunately that wont work either. Problem is by increasing the diameter of the MAF you decrease the air velocities which will make the MAF real low. Again also the air velocities may too slow for it to even measure properly. Even if it did though the output would be wrong anyways. This might be able to be compensated for by reprogramming your PROM to compensate for the increased diameter but you will lose some resolution. Again thats even if the stock MAF electronics can read accurately the lower air velocities. The MAF sensor is a precision sensor i believe i read somewhere measuring to within 5% of actual value (or else it will cause running issues). This is why there so expensive. You can try it if you want but be aware of the fact its not so simple.

Re: can i use two maf sensors.
well i did it. removed guts from the maf and put it into a 4 inch carbon fiber tube. we will see what happens. hopefully it works out ok, if not will try to compensate for it on the tuning side. if that don't work, will try to find a larger maf sensor from a newer vehicle and give adapting that in a whirl.

Re: can i use two maf sensors.
You can make a bigger MAF by using stock guts into a larger tube but you will have to reprogram the MAF tables.
I did a 3.5" MAF tube and didnt gain much power over descreened stocker... and this was at 400whp, so take it for what its worth. I did have to dramatically change the MAF tables to read somewhat correct. took awhile to increase the values enough. I really wouldnt recommend doing it.

Re: can i use two maf sensors.
well its already done. and go figure it doesn't work without reprogramming. which i can't due yet. car runs fine with it unplugged, but as soon as i plug it in, it dies. oh well, put it on the shelf till i get ability to tune stuff, then will mess with it. until then i will find a stocker in junkyard, theres one right down the road, and they sell stuf dirt cheap. have a few third gens in there, so i bet they have one. if any one has tuning capability, and would like a 4 inch maf sensor, i would be willing to trade for the stocker. and it is done well, completely sealed, and every thing. if not like i said, to the shelf it goes. Orr89Rocz, if you could shoot me a pm telling me how you modded the tables to make it read the maff i would greatly appreciate it.
