By no means am I in it to steal thirdgens but im looking to buying my second current firebird... problem is no key... and I want to hear it run obviously... also my 92 sometimes gets wacky and doesnt like the dealers key... they have it so you can have it in the run position but you cant start due to the security... does anyone know a way to bypass the security all togeather on a 91 or 92... I don't know if it makes a difference on the year of a thirdgen or not... I've been told its been done with a wire grounding out something... Any ideas?

i don't know bout yours but on my car if i just turn the ign really hard without the key it will still turn on this probably wont help but when all else fails force it

it would have to be a quick fix... i dont think i have the time to try 15 different resistors haha

O and i should add to make sure that if you do that you have to turn it back a little so the starter won't hang up

well the guy can turn it to on position w some pliers but... security wont let it start electronically not force haha

haha sux for u.... yea i see all these charts on here for the keys... does anyone have a way to id the resistor needed for each vats system like a number on the box for each of the 15 keys... so like key 1 matches this box code... that would be really helpful

yea its a lil pellet in the key that has a certain resistance value to it... but... i dont have the key so i cant decode it

take a dvom and measure the ohms going through the key and that should give you the resistance

i mean i could get all 15 but if u think about it... it takes five min to reset....so thats 75 min of trying.... UNLESS can u manually reset by disconnecting the battery????

i think you can if you leave it disconnected for 30 sec's

87 didn't have VATS, which is why your key doesn't have the chip.

The owner can take the VIN & proof of ownership to a stealership & they cut a new chipped key for that car.

Not the cheapest (because of the chip) but the only way I know of to get it started.

well its for buying a car without a key so... i want to hear it purr before i buy... and if i can do that easily it would help... i dont wanna drag it to the stealership on the way home to find out i gotta bad tranny and a knock that sounds like rods are flying like bullets out of the hood lol

that wouldn't be quick and thats not the only way to get it started ive seen plenty of car's with the chip in the key that have been bypassed by putting the correct resistor in between the vats wire's to fool the ecm i did it to my dads 96 bonneville i would hope you could do it to a third gen

not aftermarket i have a box under my dash that say's gm anti theft system and has a BUNCH of wires coming from it and a few vacuums but its factory

ok well i done it to an old grand prix one time i found the main wiring harness and found the wire going to the battery and the starter and connected them and wallah running car

i had the same problem.. get all 15 resistors, plug them in one by one and turn the ignition (if you can).. it shouldnt crank at all until you get the right resistor and then boom you got the right one when it cranks. you dont have to wait 5 minutes inbetween each one.. (or atleast i didnt) i made all 15 then went through them one by one and within 10 minutes i had it cranking and started.. if you cant get the ignition to turn to the crank position but can get it to the on position, hook up a light to the injectors to know when they are firing, turn the ignition to on, go by the brake booster and short a big red wire witht the big purple one (constant hot and starter wire) and when you have a resistor that makes the injectors fire you have the right one. they should fire right away once you get the right resistor in there just like the crank problem.

the easiest way to short the wires is with a sharp knife. just slice straight into them at the same time so the knife contacts both wires at the same time and there ya go.. that way you dont have to strip them back or cut them in half.
