James is right, it helps us help you if you provide information for your vehicle. (or fill out your profile and you don't have to repeat that info in every thread)
My main question is: do your tail lights and park lamps light up with the brakes? If so, it would point to a bad bulb/socket for one of the brake lights (it'd be back feeding into the tail circuit which also feeds the gauge lights).

Tomorrow I will be taking the tail assemblies out and checking bulbs. Also-- do the assemblies ground to the body? AN older(2006) magazine says when things get weird with tail lights to check the housing mount area for a clean metal contact. Does that also include 3rd gens? They didn't state what yrs this is applcable to.?. Thanks for the help!

Check for bad grounds, bad bullbs the filament breaks and touchs the other filament, and wrong bulbs as single filament in a double filament socket.

Re: gauges lightup when brakes applied
I was able to give a couple hours to the ol' camaro today. I checked the bulbs--(1) there are no burnt filliments (2) dual filliments aren't touching each other (3) there is a blue spliceclip connecting 2 brown wires (a) 1 wire comes from the hatch pulldown loom (b) the other goes into a loom that splits into two bundles- both with lots of wires. One bundle goes towards the front of the car, one goes into a black rubber box and into the rear body sheetmetal. (4) there is a black wire from the rubber box that is about 3'' long and is cut--I didn't see any other black cut wires. I got a Haynes manual and now I'm even more confused! The manual shows 2 wires on the backup lights>blk & lt green< I saw _5_!! 1 blk,2 brn,1 lt blue,1 grn!! Also- the manual doesn't show what kind of bulbs go where; where to install single or double filliments,so I'm guessing from replies one or more could be wrong.?. Not to mention the fiasco in the loom! WTF!! Just my luck I guess!

I am going to check some of the harnesses and maybe tomorrow I will check my '87 camaros lights. That picture of the reverse light socket looks to be the wrong socket to me. Mike
These are the pics Rob sent me. The socket for the reverse lights look like a second brake turn light socket to me.

This is the drivers side big pods (left to right)-- reverse//turn//stop/tail. Passenger side is the same pod set-up and same wire counts in coresponding locations.

Re: gauges lightup when brakes applied
I think the reverse light sockets are actually brake tail light sockets and the single filement bulb shorts the two circuits together. That harness looks like a modified firebird harness.

A BIG to you Mike! And not to forget BigBadLou and James Thank You! As soon as I get the time I will be going at it with snips and solder~ after all, if I mess it up, a new Camaro harness SHOULDNT be too hard to put in! Again, THANK YOU!!!!
