87 IROC factory stereo & climate control (questions inside)
I just recently acquired a nice 1987 IROC over the weekend. I noticed when turning on the headlights at night.. the interior lights come on fine. However not all the lights come on for the radio. Only the clock does and as far as the climate control switch for the ac/heater.. it seems the lights don't work for that as well. Are there bulbs that can be easily reached in these units to be replaced or would new units be required for the stereo and climate control?

The bulb for the HVAC controls is accessible after removing the shift plate and the radio/HVAC control bezel. You can then remove the controls from the dash to get to the bulb.
If the radio bulb(s) are replacable, you'll probably have to open up the radio to get to them.

The bulbs in the radio are replaceable but soldered in. If you have some soldering skills they shouldn't be too hard to replace. I've seen the bulbs on eBay but probably an electronics or radio repair shop can get them too.

I tried removing my radio the other day but found it very difficult. The radio did not want to come forward when I removed the mounting screws. It would not budge and seems that the wiring was very short. Is this normal or am I missing something? Also is there a factory radio that could work but is similar to this but with a CD that could be used in exchange?

I also just found out through my RPO codes that the stereo I have in my car is not original. I should be having the stereo with the equalizers.
