I think you can make a VATS bypass module...do a search for VATS and I'm sure you'll find something!

Take your VIN to the dealer and ask them to cut you a new key. Those keys are only ~$20. I never charge to cut but they might. Max I'd see you paying is $40.

Re: Lost Keys Need Help Please
If I have this straight - you know the resistance value, but don't have any key at all to have one cut, right?
Bottom line - with no key for the cylinder you'll have to replace it (unless you find a dealer that will make one, and then they will charge you two arms and a leg).
You can replace the lock cylinder yourself in about 2 hours - you get a new one from CarQuest or Napa for about $50 - it comes with a key for the cyclinder (but no chip). You rent a steering wheel puller from Advance or Autozone (free), and replace the lock cylinder. Then, take the new key to Ace Hardware to have a chip key cut for you - it's $20 at Ace - just tell them the resistance and they can cut a key.
If you don't want the chip key anymore, then after replacing the lock cylinder, simply get the resistor at Radio Shack for $1 and splice in in the wiring - see https://www.thirdgen.org/vats and https://www.thirdgen.org/vats_passkey_system
Good Luck!

So, for at least $80 and an entire afternoons worth of work (that is, if you don't break anything else) you can have a new key that if you ever lose your keys again you're screwed.
OR
However long it takes you to drive to a GM dealership + 5 minutes + ~$30 and you'll have the original key that came with the car that you can get replaced at any dealership that has the key code.
Hell, PM me your VIN and proof that you own the car and I'LL cut the key for you. If it doesn't work, I'll give you you money back. With proof that you own the car I'd PM you your key code which you could take to any locksmith/key cutter and have them cut you a new key.
I don't understand why you would want to replace the cylinder unless it's worn out to the point the original key won't work. And even then I'd replace it with a cylinder keyed to the original key.
