Re: start wire provblem
The starter circuit is one of the simplest in our cars. Very easy to troubleshoot.
Power goes to the ignition switch (atop the steering column under the dash), then to the starter enable relay (if equipped), then to the neutral safety switch on the auto shifter (or the clutch pedal switch) and finally to the starter.
The wire colors change throughout the path but with a diagram, it's not hard at all to figure out where the power stops.

Re: start wire provblem
Okay... lemme check the neutral safety switch. i think the ignition switch is good, when it turns to start the water temperature gauge maxes out and some other lights go on. alldata says to pull up the floor console cover so i'll get started on that. thanks

Re: start wire provblem
okay, neutral safety switch checks out good, the blue/black wire input is hot 12v, purple output is to starter, yellow input is from ignition, jumpered the black and purple and it turned over, yellow had no signal at all at any key turn setting, started to backtrack it to the ignition switch but below it was a black box that said GM Goodwrench Vehicle Security System that the yellow was plugged into i jumpered it with the yellow/red wire and tried the key, started right up. looks like that black box was discussed here
so i'm gonna undo that terrible wiring mess to remove it and continue with resto, thanks for those diagrams they are wonderful
