Manditory Immobilizer + VATS!!!!!

Anyone out there forced to have an immobilizer (Gov't regulated anti theft device) installed into there cars on top of the already existing VATS system?

Can the VATS system be bypassed by the unsuspecting thief?

10 years ago I had my car broken into twice in 2 nites (probably by the same guys) after the cops failed to show up for 36 hours to fingerprint it. I video taped the 2nd nite!!!!

Obviously they couldn't steal it because of the VATS system, but it looks like the government around here figures that my GTA is at a high risk for thefts by our jeuvenille delinquents and is forcing the installation of these "Immobilizer systems" or you can't register or insure your sports car.....!!!!

What do you guys think????

After having my car stolen last July I think they're a great idea. But having your Gov't mandate it is a little,...overbearing. Maybe it was your Gov't trying to steal your car to see if you were in fact, in compliance with the immobilizer law! Just my .02

Hey another Winnipeg guy with a GTA. I haven't had your experience as of yet. I dont think im required to get one though. I have my regular carstar alarm w/Starter Kill + VATs. I will bitch and complain if MPI make me put in a 3rd security system. Maybe once they figured this Immobilizer crap out they can come up with a way to prevent door dings from people parking so close i have to crawl through the hatch. For this reason i quadruple park the car now. Anyway. Nice to see another GTA guy in Peg city. Whats the old girl look like?

Re: Manditory Immobilizer + VATS!!!!!

VATS is an immobilizer/starter disabling system, It has two separate functions. Once interrupts the starter circuit. The other prevents the ECM from operating the injectors. Even if a potential thief jumps power to the starter and cranks the engine, the injectors will not fire.

Just another case of a government agency not having a clue about things they legislate. There are about 10,000 firearms laws in North Aerica, yet liberals want even more restrictive laws so that only those who disregard the law will have firearms.

If the elected and appointed (and PAID) government employees would do what they are supposed to do (enforce the existing laws) there would be no need for the innocent people to do their jobs for them. Why the Hell should it be your responsibility to to incur additional expense? If they give you any more ignorant, babbling drivel over it, tell them you have a Remmington 30-06 theft deterrent system, and that the bodies will be lying right at the scene of the crime when they arrive in two days on their "emergency" call response.

I swear, it seems that 2% of Canucks are going to make the other 98% look bad. If they get any dumber, you'll have to send them down to us, where they'll blend right in with all the other tunnel-visioned, mouth-breathing vocal liberal minority. If they continue to get even dumber, we'll have to send them to Hollywood. If they degenerate to the point where there two remaining brain cells no longer rub together to make any energy whatsoever, we'll have to elect them and send them to Washington.

Re: Manditory Immobilizer + VATS!!!!!

GTA Sammy, did MPI send you a letter saying you needed to get an immobilizer? I live in Winnipeg too and have an 84 Z28, I haven't been forced to get one yet. Maybe your car is deemed a "higher risk" to be stolen? Stupid rules, anyways.

Actually, and I believe honestly, reported results indicate that "W" has tested at a significantly higher I.Q. than his last opponent, Al Gore. That's not a real surprise, but it's not saying much, either. The point is that it could always be worse.

The scary thing is that the government in Winne is actually trying to dumb it down even further. I feel sorry for you guys and girls living under that mentality.

First of all we have 20,000+ gun laws(Fed,State, local) here and it sucks! And yes "W" was the lesser of 2 bad choices. Vader, have you seen the administrations response to US vs. Heller yet? Makes me sick and I voted for him!

Re: Manditory Immobilizer + VATS!!!!!

If I get "the letter" for my z28, I am going to raise all sorts of hell. But I think that their "reasoning" is that 3rd gen camaros are too old considering the "newest" 3rd gens are 16 years old, and if they get stolen/joyrided/damaged, MPI WILL write it off anyways and you will get less than nothing for it.

You know we all had an opportunity in this province to turf this closet-commie doofus that all the lazy socialist sheeple in this province voted in as premier (same as governor, for the americans tuning it) for the 3rd time. Now this douche bag is "going green" and dragging us down with him, banning everything from "pure" gasoline, to lightbulbs, and not excluding the crunchy bits in granola. Besides, gov't LOVES GREEN especially when it results in NEW forms of TAXATION!!

and remember, in this country, property rights count for $hit.

Re: Manditory Immobilizer + VATS!!!!!

Yeah, the GTA was deemed "extremely high risk " to be stolen and needs this EXTRA immobilizer to be insured........

Last summer I didn't insure it at all cause I was so pissed!!!!!

I wonder if there is a way to challange the installation of one of these things...... I really don't want one and like I said the factory system seems to work just fine!

Re: Manditory Immobilizer + VATS!!!!!

I wish there was a way to fight it, but I doubt there is. MPI has too much power around here. Thats the problem with a government run monopoly on anything, especially something as important as this.
