Viper Alarm : Hatch Sensor
Is there a way that i can add a sensor to my viper alarm that will go off when my hatch is open? Or do i just take it back to the audio shop to be retuned or...?
Im sorry for being such a "noob" but my audio means alot to me.
Thank you in advance

Re: Viper Alarm : Hatch Sensor
I've seen a very few (as in maybe two in the hundreds I've seen) hatch pull-down motors that have a bracket with a switch. The bracket attaches to two of the 3 screws that hold the motor to the frame. The switch if mounts senses the base of the latch assy. I'm sure I have one around here somewhere. If you're interested I'll look for it. It will serve the your purposes.

Re: Viper Alarm : Hatch Sensor
Almost any alarm has extra inputs nowadays. You can use it for an extra switch under the hatch. The switch cost is in the $1 range. Installation cost is probably close to triple digits.
If you don't have an extra input on the alarm, it's no problem to connect the new switch in parallel to another sensor/switch. They are all usually grounding switches (door, hood, trunk).
If you're afraid of somebody breaking into your car, a glass-break sensor and vibration sensor is a good choice because what good is a hatch switch if they just smash your glass with a baseball bat and take your amp.

Re: Viper Alarm : Hatch Sensor
You could do an additional sensor on the dk.blue (instant trigger) input on the DEI (viper) alarm. A few options would be a pin switch next to the hatch latch on the plastic but would also need the housing to be grounded. A mercury tilt switch is another option and could be affixed to the upper portion of the glass and wired into the car by the roof. Also could do a micro-switch next to the motor slide if on a 3rd gen car. Microswitch is like the ones used for NOS activation by the throttle which can also be purchased at RadioShack or a like electronics store. This would take a good talented installer to do but would be the cleanest/hidden way to go.

Instead of a switch of any kind, you could just run a wire from that input to the ground side of the light (if the car has a hatch light), when the light turns on, it triggers the alarm.
