Testing the hatch striker sensing switch
Trying to get the pull down unit working on my 1989 TTA. The prior owner had butchered this thing.I replaced the plastic body, gear and reversing switch. The unit went to the up position and stoped. After closing the hatch nothing happend. It remained up.
I noticed that by flipping the sticker sensing switch , nothing happend but the hatch light would turn of when the arm was depressed. Does this mean that the switch is good?

I believe that the hatch closing that the hatch itself provides a ground to the switch{I may be wrong} but that is how the cadillac trunk pulldown works, which should be thesame.Maybe this is the problem.

Yes you can test the switch, but I know that older cadillacs used a ground that when the latch contacted the striker then that is when it pulled it to the down position. And when the ground was gone the switch would allow the pulldown to again rise.{there is actually 2 different switches in the lower pulldown switch.}Test for power and ground to the switch would be first start, and if it is useing ground for the hatch you could use a jumper wire to ground at the latch to see if it is working. If I am wrong,I hope another member can show us if it is ground actuated.
