A/C wiring question
My a/c does not work, here is the situation. When I turn the a/c on the compressor does not come on. First, should I have power at the blade connector at the compressor. With the motor running, blade connector disconnected and a/c turned on in the car, no power on the test light. I dont know the freon level and I am not sure which fuse to check. I looked at the heater/ac fuse, 25amp and it is good. I understand about the low and high pressure switches but I think I should have power regardless? Thanks in advance for getting me started.

Htr/ac fuse is the fuse for the clutch. If you have low enough freon or a bad low or high pressure switch you will have no power to the clutch. Do you have a v8 or v6. Check for power going in and out of the low pressure switch on the accumulator and then at the high pressure switch. Mike

Thanks for the info Mike,
Its a v8 350- 89 GTA
Does the vehicle need to be running when I am checking for power on the switches or just key on?

I will check the low pressure switch. I noticed that the blade connector
looks melted or at least it got hot. I noticed that there is what looks like a diode wired in on the bottom of the blade connector. Wondering if I might have a problem with the connector on up the trouble tree.

Ok, I finally got back around to the a/c problem. I put a jumper wire in the connector for the switch in the accumulator and cut the a/c on. The compressor came on. Now with that said should I try and have the system charged or replace the switch where I jumped it? I took both caps off pressed in the valves and freon came out of both so I know the system is not empty but still could be low....
