At last 2 guage. Many people use 0 gauge to be safe thought. I would consider this overkill. 2 gauge will be just fine unless you are running a very high compression motor with a torque recuction starter that pulls alot of amps.

I used 1/0 Welding cable running to a distro block in the bay (and for my batt to frame GND) then 4 Ga running from the distro to the starter.
I would have run 2/0 but they were out of it at the time
Whatever you decide to use make sure you check your voltage drop from the batt to the starter (or wherever you run the + cable to).
