Headlight will not pop down

I just replaced the headlight assembly motors.....rebuilt the gears and all. I believe this problem is electrical because my passenger headlight will 90% of the time not pop down.....somehow I noticed it would pop down once in a while.....I'm guessing there is some kind of electrical problem. The motors are perfect and not worn out. Someone once told me that there is a way to "adjust the load" using a screw or **** on the motor? I know this is a common problem with thirdgens and I might have overlooked a thread with an answer to this. I could use some direction in this matter.

Thanks,
Dan

I gather this is your 88 GTA? I had a problem with the lights not going Down. It was my Head Light Switch. The plastic that pushes down on the copper contacts inside was worn, therfore, it was not making good connections. However...Being that said. You have a Problem with ONE headlight, not both. So i doubt that it is the switch. The GUIDE or Motor Control Relay on the firewall, controls the voltage that comes from the Headlight Switch and goes to EACH motor. So, you may have a faulty Relay.
If you have rebuilt the motors, you can get a Volt Meter set for a range of over 12vdc..Prob 20vdc range...and read the voltage at the Motor Connector at the FAULTY motor. Be sure to UNPLUG the motor, have someone turn your lights on and off. Read from the green wire to Chassis ground of your car. Then read from the grey wire to Chassis ground. See if you get 12vdc on both wires when the Switch is flipped for your headlights. If you need a diagram of this circuit i can post one for you....errr i hope you can follow this.

P.S. Did you replace the brushes in the motors? Or did you take that part of the armature of the motor apart? The brushes do where out, not common but they do. If you rebuilt them with new bushings. and the motor turns, may not be the issue.

Greg

What about this... I have had my alarm on for 3 years and no problems until this lately, whenever I turn the alarm on or off with the remote, the headlights will make a grinding noise and go up and down 1/8 of the way about 2 times really fast. I am afraid to use the alarm because I do not want to burn the motors or new bushings I had put in 1 1/2 years ago, HELP! Andy

your alarm never flashed your parking lights? that is strange...might be the relay detecting a voltage leak or surge. If the Control Relay is bad, it can do this Enough to Pop the headlights up for a sec and down again....Do your headlights work ok on theie own? Eg On/Off and Parking lights work ok? Sopunds to me SOMETHING is hitting your control relay with a voltage spike.
