Firebird headlight switch

Firebird headlight switch
Ok guys I couldn't find anything out there for this one but I'm sure it's a problem that has been brought up before.
I finally got the car out on the road the other nite and the headlights went up no problem, but when I went to turn them off they wouldn't drop! The headlight switch has been acting up for years but I think that it's finally done. I could still hear the headlight motor clicking quietly when the engine was off and I was trying to close the headlight doors at the switch.
Can I assume that the motor itself is OK and that I just have to replace the switch? and how difficult is it to replace the switch? One more question.... I was looking around the typical part stores out here for the headlight switch and nobody carries one. Do I hafta go to the dealer to get one?

You can buy a Firebird headlight switch at any parts store here in the US. I bought an AC/Delco switch at Advanced Auto for under $15 about a year ago. The particular switch was used in a variety of applications in GM vehicles. What kind of parts store chains do you have up in Canada?
Replacing the switch is easy. I took off my dashpad and guage cluster cover when replacing the switch.
If your motors are clicking, look into buying TDS's deluxe headlight repair kit. The bushings in the headlight motors have failed. It's next on my list of repairs as not only my left but also my right headlight is clicking.

I've recently started stocking more of the headlight components, including the headlight switch.

Thanks Gentleman!!! I did get the lights working last nite but I know that I'm on the verge on needing these parts. I just played with the crankdown **** and the motor kicked in, doesn't sound good though does it???
By the way does TDS ship up here? I went to Canadian Tire (sounds funny don't it?!!!) They were the guys that said that they didn't have it???
I'll end up looking around here some more and if knowbody else carries it I'll have to order both online?
I appreciate the heads up!

There are NAPA stores in Winnipeg, that's where I'd look for a headlight switch.
As I said in my first reply, it sounds like the problem is not the switch.
I'm sure that Lon will ship to Canada.
Lon, it's nice to see that you are selling a reconditioned headlight module for a reasonable price.

Thanks Gents! It's funny you mention NAPA because that's where I went right off the bat! $25.00 Can. Sounds good to me! I think that I'll start there and see what happens...... if the problem still persists I'll be looking for the rebuild kit. By the way how involved is the rebuild for the headlight motor???
Your help is greatly appreciated
