ground cables shorting out

85' camaro and swapped a 305 for a 350, but now everytime you get done driving the car and its hot and you goto start it again the ground wire that goes from the negative battery cable to teh fender heats up it melted all the plastic off, smokes, and even melted into the coolant bottle any ideas why so much juice is going to it and what i can do to fix it... THANKS

i have the same problem ssometimes....check the connection between the cable itself and the batt/fender...make sure everything is nice and tight, and a good connection is made...seems only to do it on my car when the connection is loose

it sounds like the ground cable to the motor has problems, check the main ground cable from the battery to the motor for tight clean connections & check the cable where it goes into the battery clamp.
if it looks good, do a voltage drop test on it.
