hotwiring radar detector

so im picking up a radar detector tomorrow, i have been reading old threads but they are not very clear to me on how to hotwire the rd...is there a way that i can wire it to the map lights? , if anything i think i would pull one bulb out that way i wouldnt be driving around with a bulb on all the time ...of course id have to remember to hit the switch when the car is off...or if someone wants to explain how to hotwire it to the ignition system.... thanks

Hard wire it to fuse box for the igination key, that way it will turn on>off with the key. Thats the way I have mine set up.

Unless you want to mount it high for better performance and dont want to mess around with running wire up the a pillar...

edit: wait! I have it! Wire the radar detector to the dome light, and then just drive around with a door open!

There are a couple of empty slots in the fuse panel. Plug into one of them so that power comes on and off with the ignition.

Yes. Or use a fuse in the fuse box and tap it off that.

I took the dash top off and ran a couple wires down to the stereo to do mine. Basically I hooked the detector's power wire to the switched power wire on the radio and the ground to the ground wire. I routed the wires for the fuzz buster out of one of the defrost vents so you can't see the wire when it's not attached to the dectector. I set my radar detector low on the windshield in the center and it works like a charm.
