I think I need a new battery, Optima??

Hey guys,
I have a 1992 Camaro RS 3.1 and I don't drive it in the winter. It has a big stereo in it (Two Orion 400 Watt Amps in the Trunk), and this all puts a draw on the life of the battery. I have had this battery for three years and theres no telling when it has just enough power to start the car, or whether you'll just hear a click from the starter. I think one of the cells is dead. It is an energizer battery. But I was thinking, whats a good battery that will last through a bunch of hard usage and not let me down? Any help/ideas are greatly appreciated.

When you say your amps put alot of strain on your battery, do you mean you sit with the car off and the radio on? Otherwise its drawing from the alternator. I have a Yellow top and, although I haven't had problems with it, I think its overpriced and not a wise investment. Its heavy too.

For a non winter driven car an Optima battery would be a waste. Just get a Delco battery and while the car is stored charge it once a week for an hour.

OH okay thanks guys. I dont sit with the engine off and the radio on, because I know what can happen. But I'll take your word for it and just charge it up every once in a while. Thanks again.

I figure the main application for an Optima is a trunk mount where you don't want to gas up the enclosed area, or a frame mount at an odd angle, or just for looks. Hard to beat a high powered Diehard or similar, for the money. Those Optimas do seem to last forever though.

i love my yellow top, was having power problems before with my stereo(i.e lights dimming) got the yellow and now have no problems. Yes they cost a little but other than lasting a long time the look pretty cool
