MSD street pro billet distributor. Which way to face the vacuum advance canister?

I am using the MSD street pro billet distributor in my small block and want to know the correct way to face it in relation to the engine. I know how to install it and all that good stuff. My question is which side whould the vacuum advance canister be on, the driver or passenger side of the motor? I replaced the socket style cap with a small HEI style cap with brass terminals. I just want to make sure that when I drop in the distributor, it will fire over and run in one shot. Thanks, Paul Moore

The vacuum canister should be on the passenger side, sort of pointing at the corner of the right front fender.

Thanks, I didn't have an engine to tear down so there was no distributor to look at for reference. I basically bought a block, crank and rods for $200 and started building upwards. All the cars in the junkyard are tore apart with no upper end(intake, heads, carb, etc.) and people would look at me funny when I ask them "Do you mind if I take a look under your hood?" They get kinda freaked out. Thanks alot, Paul Moore

Well, I just went to the shed and looked at the distributor and yep it's in the wrong postition. Now I have a whole nother problem. I am using an Edelbrock Performer RPM Air Gap manifold, and I decided to use the rear coolant ports for the 4 corner cooling mod. Well, as it turns out, the vacuum advance canister is hitting my fitting on the passenger side of the rear manifold and the distributor won't go down in the manifold all the way. So what now? Do I have to lose the 4 corner cooling or do I have to get rid of the vacuum advance? I don't want to get rid of either because it will be a daily driver. Any sugestions are welcome. Thanks, Paul Moore

I have a similar problem with some backets I have. I have the vacuum canister pointing almost straight at the carb. The canister doesn't care where it points. All that matters is that the correct plug fires at the right time, so if you move the canister 1\8th of a turn, move all the plug wires one socket and it should still be the same. Mine runs fine like that. Clearance around the carb might be another thing for you.
