wont start

wont start
my camaro wont start but if i use a pair of pliers to jump the starter solinoid it will start. i think it is a ford solinoid because there wasnt enought clearace for the chevy one. i dont know if the solinoid is bad or the ignition switch. can anyone help me trouble shoot this problem. its on a carbed car

Have you checked the purple wire that goes from the park/neutral switch to the starter solenoid. Better yet, have you checked the park/neutral switch?

this is for a second gen camaro but i really need to get some answers thats why i came here and those 2nd gen camaro message boards kinda suck.

If it is an automatic it will be located under the center console on the shifter assembly. If it is a manual it will be the clutch start switch on the clutch pedal.

ok i'll check that. just to futher explain i put the key in and turn it to start but it dont crank or anything. its a auto

Sometimes if the shifter is not comepletely in park or the switch is out of adjustment you will get that problem. Another thing to check is the ignition switch on the steering column under the dash.

i looked under the dash for the ignition switch but there are three switches 2 towards the front and one towards the back

i know what the park/neutral switch does but i thought when it went bad it would let you start the car in any gear but w/e

i replaced the ignition switch today and that didnt fix anything so i am gonna try the park/neutural switch tomarrow
