keep popping 3 fuses and have a bunch of stuff not working help!!

Well I am determined to figure out what the problem is in my electrical system if you guys are willing to help. Alright so I keep popping 2 fuses constantly and then one pops once in a while. What can I do to stop this?

Heres a list of stuff that doesnt work
1. Headlights wont flip up (they will flip down though so i know its an electrical problem and I also know that the light fuse keeps popping)
2. taillights wont go on when driving at night (they light up when I hit the brakes but wont be on at night)
3. instrument panel lights
4. Cigarrete lighter (I just bought a new lighter so I know its not the lighter but an electrical problem)
5. Dome lights
6. Radio wiring (there constant 12 doesnt work and I think none of it works now)

What should I do first? I have all the time in the world to work on this and have also dismantled my dash already. I live walking distance from work so my car can be out of comission for a while.

I know the lights have to be completely rewired too because the idiot previous owner did somesort of ghetto job on them.

Should I redo all the grounds?

my fuse box has all the little name things worn off, where can i get a diagram of whats what?

Any help in my hour of need would be greatly appreciated.

On the TGO main page, there is a link to a Tech Articles section. Scroll down that page until you come to the Electrical section. Down towards the bottom of this section is a link to 1985 Wiring Diagrams. This may be for a Camaro but its a good start. You may have to look for a diagram of the fuse panel. Trickster may be able to help on this.

Check your light switch first, since NONE of the exterior lights come on when you turn them on.

Your cig lighter may have something in it (coin probably) or it may be shorted out under the console top. This may also be the reason the CTSY fuse is dead, which also controls the radio and dome lamp, or your DPO (damn prev owner) may have fubared something in that area as well.

Having the dash out is a good step in the right direction.

One quick question here, do you have the standard instrument panel or the fancy electronic instrument panel in your car?

Sorry I forgot to ask in my first post but what three fuses keep blowing on you. I need to know so I can check the schematics, I have a 85 firebird service manual.

The fuse that powers the light motors, the fuse directly under that and then one to the left of the one under the light motor fuse. All the names and stuff are rubbed off on the fuse box.

Okay Leader_One,

Here's a couple of things for you, there is no fuse for the light motors. Before you start screaming and scratching your head I'll explain. The light switch operates the headlight motors through 3 relays. The Isolation relay, the left hand actuator, & the right hand actuator relay. The two actuator relays get power from two fusible links. The light switch gets its power from the "TAIL" fuse. This "TAIL fuse also powers your "INST LMP" fuse which along with the "CRTSY" fuse controls your interior and exterior lights with the exception of the back-uplight and turn signals. Here is a picture of your fuse panel. Let me know if you want me to e-mail you the wiring schematics.
