Question on hooking up some neon

Just found some 3" blue neon sticks on sale @ Target (clearance rack). I bought three packs (6 individual lights). Two each are wired into a cigarette lighter plug.

Questions is, what kinda of fuse should I run if I want to cut the wires, and run them all straight to the battery? Is that a good idea? Each neon light has a very thin wire powering it. Its gotta be like 23 gauge. It's tiny.

Should I run larger gauge wires to each neon independently?

I want to place two neons up front (under the dash, by the kick panels) two up by the head liner by the sail panels, and the last two toward the trunk area.

Any thoughts would be appreciated!!

Thanks,

It be a good idead to run them thru a fuse and a relay controled by a switch. Id go from the power distribution but you can get power from whereever you want. To find out what fuse youd need measure the resistance of each light and them figure out whether you want to wire them in seris or parallel. Using V=R*A (V=Voltage, R=Resistance, A=Amperage) you will be able to figure out the current draw. Then just use a fuse slightly bigger.

You can’t just measure the neon resistance to calculate the current draw or the fuse need. And you don’t need a relay, neons draw next to no current. A 5A fuse should be good.

Ah. Thanks guys. I didnt think neon draws much current. I just dont want to blow anything up! LOL....

I'll let you guys know how it turns out!
