Digital Dash
Hello everyone...I'm new here.
I bought an 86 camaro Berlinetta w/ 305 and full Digital. I'm having a problem with the speedometer. If the car is going faster then 85....it displays 85 and blinks at me. How do I stop this? I would like for it to display the correct speed. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

ok....so.....what to do about this? I don't believe the speedometer reads accurately anyway. I drove to my girlfriends college...she says she does 70 all the way home and it takes her 3 hours....i did 80 the whole way and it still look me 4 1/2. How hard would installing a small mechanical speedometer be?

my digital speedo was very accurate. the 85 blinking is warning you to slow down there is now way around it that im aware of. and i dont believe a newer iroc speedo will fit into the berlinetta. for as little as you can travel 85 and for the amount of work involved in switching the whole dash out to a newer 140mph iroc dash isnt realy worth it. but hey its possible.the digital dash is one thing that make your car what it is... a berlinetta. now that i got rid of mine i wish i still had it it was the best car i ever owned it was a super sport with a 305 and it was fully loaded power everything. ...good luck

i don't want to remove the digital dash.....just add a mechanical...like a pillar pod style or something small that will show me my speed. I was hoping i could mod it or something to change that...but if not...i would like to know how fast i've had it.

No one I have ever met can chage the factory berlinetta speedo to read over 85. I've heard a LOT of theorys,...... but never any success !
You can install a cable speedo if you really wanted to; just replace the electric speedo sensor in the tranny and run a cable tru the car and to the new gauge.
You could also elect to use an aftermarket digital speedo and would have less parts to buy and work to do. Here's a picture of mine:
P.S. By removing the electric Speedo sensor you will cause problems with the cars cruise control ( if equiped ) and possibly the computer ( code 24 ) since the VSS will not longer be sending Speed data to those systems. I think the computer uses the speed data for the Automatic Tranny Tourqe Converter lock-up - but I am not positive about that !

yea not a good idea to remove the vss in exchange for a manual one. your check engine light will come on you will lose cruise and you could actualy ruin 700r tranny if its not locked up.it locks up i think at 35-45. assuming your tranny is a 86 it might be ok because they changed them in 85 so that you could run them unlocked without overheating it. good luck

How hard would installing a digital speedometer like the one you have be? How much was it? How high will it read? I don't have cruise control...odd considering the rest of the car is electric. I also asked a local trooper to radar me...he looked at me funny and told me to get a friend to clock me....they won't. anyone know where I can pick up a set of used berlinetta rims...the gold ones? I jumped a curb the other day...tore my tire and brushed the rim....don't know if it's fixable.
