VSS and Buffer Question???????

1)Is the part #25071437 the only Buffer Box GM offered? Any other cars U know of use this Box that would be easy to find in a yard?

2)About the VSS. I looked at the part #'s for ELECTRIC VSS that came on the Camaros and Firebirds for each year. There seems to be 3-4 differnet part #'s for each year just for an auto trans. Does it matter which VSS i get if I am just swithing my mechanical speedo 87 Iroc over to an electric Speedo?

3)Also will my speedo drive and driven gears from my mechanical VSS thing, Fit On and Work With an electric VSS?

4) is it worth Getting a used VSS? If so dnd Depending on the answer to #2 is there any other cars I can get a 4000ppm electric VSS from in the junk yard?

1> have you talked to a dealership on that one? they usually have that on their computers

2>hmm.. what kinda electric speedo are you getting? One made from GM or an aftermarket?

3> There are alot of different speedo gears for the electric speedos. They need to match up so they give you accurate speed. All different colors and numbers of teeth. If you get an electric speedo, you will need the gear that comes with it. I got my gears with my electric speedo sender from the dealership. They needed to have a casting number off of the rear axle to know which electronic speedometer gear was right for my car. The casting number is on the passenger side of the rear axle facing to the front of the car. You will need to scrape all the nasty build up to see it. And scrape good at that, its not deeply engraved as I think it Should! be lol..

4> depends.. on my car they used a vss in production for only 4 months. So its damn near imposible for me to find one from the boneyard. I ordered mine, it cost me 108.00 purchasing under a business name. Would have been 130 and that does include the plastic gears that go on the transmission.. and didnt include the clip that holds the gear in place lol I was lucky to have that from a previous vss I got from a junkyard. I do have a spare one from an 89 transam that had an 85mph speedo. I have the speedo sender and plastic gear from it. I though it didnt work with my car so I ordered a new one. Turns out you have to rotate the vss itself so it lifts up into place and makes contact with the gear. BAGH! fun... I though it just didnt work. >.<

oh, you might need the sender housing that is held on by 4 holds, tail peice of the trans. They usually are all the same but mine was rarely different. Measure the diameter of the hole of where the vss would go on the driver side.

I am putting in a 4th gen dash and using a 2000 Trans Am Speedo. Basically I just need A VSS that gives out 4000ppm's
