4th Gen BCM Question.
[Sorry for the double post, I forgot about the electronics board]
Ok, I havent heard/found much of anything on this around here, so I dont figure I will get many responses. But instead of burrying it in the bottom of another post I'll start one for others to find.
I read a post that the BCM (Body Control Module) from the 96-02 4th gens will work for a keyless entry in our cars. so heres my question:
1) What else will I need if it doesnt have a harness with it, what if its just the BCM and Key FOB.
2) Can it control the Trunk
3) Can it blink the lights
4) Can it honk the horn.
I think thats it for now!

The real question, is why not spend the tiny bit extra money to get a halfway decent alarm and install it which can do it all.....

So, in order to have a GM transmitter, instead of a non GM one, you'd rather leave your car more vulnerable to theives, rely on GM when you need a new transmitter and programming it, and chase around gm wire diagrams. This makes no sense whatsoever....

I dont want an alarm, even the good ones are crap, one company makes about 5 diff. names, some are viewed as quality, others are viewed as crap.
I dont want this for a security stand point. I want think for a convenience standpoint. To lock and unlock doors thats it, I also want it to appear as if it were factory. So this is my only option for what I want to do.

Ok, I wasn't going to reply to this, but I am....
I believe the compnay you are refering to is DEI, makers of Viper, Valet, Hornet, etc, which are ALL considered to be good products.
I have to say though, that using an aftermarket piece, even if it is only for keyless entry will be a lot cheaper and more reliable in the end.
From my experiance with the 4th gen BCM, it does a lot more than just keyless features, it is tied into the rest of the electrical system and provides a bus for comunication between a lot of systems, that may render it useless in anything other than a 4th gen F-body, maybe even a different model.
I can understand your desire to want to make/keep a factory look/feel, I do the same in a lot of cases, but sometimes it's just not worth it.
