12 pin DLC connector?

Where is the 12 pin DLC connector located? I was reading the article on how to read the SES codes, and was wondering where it is? I'm used to working with older non CC cars, so this is something new to me. Or perhaps it's worded in some way that I don't understand? Any help? Also, it says that a number will be displayed. Is that number another series of flashes and pauses, like the "12" ?

To the right of the steering column and down a bit under the dash slightly. It usually has a plastic cover that just pulls off exposing the connector.
