Car Alarm Recommendations...

Ok, I've had it...

This morning I walked outside and found my LOCKED car cover had been stolen over night.. this makes the 4th time thieves have hit my car in the 2 years I've owned it... un-f*cking-acceptable..

So, I'm gonna get an alarm put on it... question is:

What type should I get?

I don't want anything outraegously expensive, but I do want it to get the job done. I'm thinking I want something motion or movement sensitive (ie, I don't want these guys to be able to remove my car cover again without the alarm going off).

Oh, and anyone know what installation prices are roughly?

Thanks in advance..

A microwave radar sensor will accomplish what you're after, a finely tuned shock sensor may work too.

A thirdgen car alarm, keyless entry & remote start install guide is avaliable here:

Car: Camaro of course
Cliford Matrix, you can program it w/ a laptop hook your shaved handles into it, remote start prox. sensors, I've had mine for a little over a year, I did some reasearch and found it to be "the" alarm for my car. Also if you get a remote start you have to get a vats mudule

Unfortunatly, what you spend on the alarm is directly related to how well it works..as well as the installer experience

my alarm: compustar SSR long range two-way remote start and alarm combo

DEI 508d two stage radar sensor mounted under center console between power window switches

twindows window rollups

this sytem will page me up to 2 miles away and let me know if someone WALKS too close to my car.

I can even leave my t-tops off and if someone puts thier grubby hands in my car, it will roll up the windows and set the alarm off and page me to let me know.. PEACE OF MIND, and thats what we want out of an alarm, right?

the shop i work at charges 50 an hour, but it may be different in other areas of the country.. retail my alarm would cost 600.00 and about 400 to put it in.. if I trusted anyone else to work on my car. BTW, I am a professioal audio and alarm installer and hear this question alot...
check out the site and post back what you think..

compustar

Definitely true...

I'm not lookin' for the most advanced system out there, I just wanna make sure I don't spend $300 - $400 on a piece of junk system...

Thanks guys

i wouldnt buy an auto page one. my buddy had one, maybe it was too sensitive but, when it rained it would page him and he would have to go get his car for no reason.

im buying an alpine car alarm. they had one at A&B sound for 400 bucks, installed.. or was it 300... anyways, it has a proximity sensor, shock sensor (digital) so it can work better in the cold. if it isnt digital, it has a metal ball with a rubber band type thing around it. and when it gets cold the band gets hard and doesnt work as well.

I use Viper alarms by Directed Electronics (www.directed.com). My camaro has a 500ESP, while the Firechicken has a 300ESP. The good part is that the remotes are interchangeable and can be used on both vehicles (different buttons.)

Most major electronics stores (Circuit City, etc,) offers these installed, but I installed them myself, which wasn't too hard. The only place I know to buy these un-installed is on E-bay.

I have had good luck with these alarms and I place a LARGE LED that can be seen outside the car. Thieves are lazy, they want an easy target.

Hellfire- how did your autopage work out? I am thinking going with autopage soon. What model did you use? Is the quality good and is it easy to use? I am looking at the 2600, 3500, 310, or 410. Suggestions? -89IRO

I have one called a rottweiler. It workes very good. One time on Devils night someone tried to steal my car. They didn't get past the next house before my alarm system got em. Now that's justice!

My friend hooked up alarm to old subs in his room ... so when someone broke into the car the only alarm went off were his subs and he caught alot of people like that.
