CB antenna question
I have a no-ground plane setup (no ground antenna, uses negative co-ax for ground), and I want to use a 100 linear...will it go nuclear? I don't want to blow anything...but don't want to drill holes on my SC.

Oh for **** sake, if you need 100W PEP get your ham license. If you had a descent antenna setup you wold not need the brick. 4W PEP is the MAX legal for transmission on the citizen band.

Well....I have already decided on using it. I will go with some RG-8X and a GP firestik probably. I just wondered if anyone had ever used a NGP antenna with an amp. I know it's illegal...so is running down the street whacking fenceposts with a stick in Springfield, IL. Doing it anyway. Tired of hearing all of the skip, and not being able to talk back.
If you can tell me how to skip back on 4 W, I am 'all ears'...

At 27 Mhz a gound plane is critical for proper operation, and even assuming it's mounted smack dab in the middle of the roof the problems with that level of power can manifest themselves in many ways. Erratic operation of the ECM as well as other RFI problems may be encountered. Without a proper installation something as simple as a corroded bolt in the frame can act as a rectifier and generate all sorts of garbage. Have some fun and get an amateur license, there is no code required to get you on 2 meters, 220 or 440 and with a decent repeater all you will need is a 1 watt hand-held.

Where would I go to get a license? I am just not wanting to have to register with the government bubbas...
I have a NGP antenna now, but will trade it out for something else...I have heard nothing but bad news for NGP systems. I just got lazy and didn't want to change out my perfect NGP install...but the performance will be worth it.
Thanks for the info! Sorry if I sounded rude, but everything I want to do lately has some government registration or restriction...IT SUCKS!
GOING PIRATE seems to be the only way...just have to install it in a nice hidden place...

There are usually amateur radio clubs in your area. The testing is done by volunteers in the clubs. A source for information is the American Radio Relay League.

By the sounds of things if this Non Ground Plane antenna uses the coax screening as the other radiator you are almost guaranteed trouble.
The whole length of transmission line will be spewing RF garbage and like Danno says the ECM and everything else electronic will most likely freak out.
Be prepared for all kinds of strange behaviour from anything electrical. Maybe even damage.
Better yet, skip the 100W amp all together.
