1987 WS6 trans am. all gauges except speedo work. I put the computer on the car and it registered one warning. (vehicle speed sensor unplugged) does anyone know where the speedo plug is under the dash, or where it's other plugs are? if you can help with this problem please leave me a line.

I think that the speedo is unplugged but i don't know where it plugs in. I know there's only 2 plugs on the back of the gauge cluster. Do u know where else the speedo plugs in? I looked under the dash by the fuses and one plug(yellow and a purple wire) is unplugged, but i can't find where it plugs in at. If you know the locations please let me know. Thanks.

If you have a digital cluster, the VSS plug is at the transmission & there is a VSS buffer box near the ECM. If you have an analog cluster, the VSS & buffer are located on the rear of the cluster & you also have a speedometer cable, which connects between the cluster & the transmission, which may be broken.

The VSS is at the tail of the transmission! The speedo could be malfuntioning for 3 different reasons! #1. The VSS wire came unplugged (at the transmission).... #2. The VSS is bad .... #3. The big gear inside the tail shaft has slipped back into the transmission or the little green plastic gear broke.... this happened to me! If the wire is plugged in but the speedo still doesn't work, take the VSS out of the transmission and feel in the hole and you should be able to feel the big gear right in front of the hole... if the gear has slid towards the front of the transmission as mine did, that's your problem! To fix it, you have to remove the tail shaft, find the clip that's fallen off that WAS holding the gear in place, and position the gear back to where it's supposed to be!! Otherwise, if the gear is where it's supposed to be, that means your VSS is messed up and you need to buy a new one!!
